Automatic tracking or log upload — which should I use?

Automatic tracking is easier and needs no log files: install the WordPress plugin, or add the Cloudflare Worker or PHP snippet from Integrations. It records visits as they happen. Upload log files instead if you want history from before you installed anything, or if your site sits behind a cache that serves crawlers without reaching your server.

Will automatic tracking slow down my website?

Accepted Answer

No. Nothing runs for human visitors, and for crawler requests the report is sent after your page has already been returned, so it never delays anyone. It has no impact on your site's performance and won't affect your page speed scores.

Which AI crawlers does LogLumin detect?

Accepted Answer

LogLumin tracks ChatGPT (GPTBot), Claude (ClaudeBot), Perplexity (PerplexityBot), Google Gemini (Google-Extended), GoogleBot, BingBot, and many more. We only track AI crawlers - regular visitor traffic is not monitored.

Can I use both JavaScript tracking AND log uploads?

Yes! You can use both methods simultaneously. JavaScript provides real-time tracking while log uploads give you historical data. The data from both sources is kept separate in your dashboard.

What log formats are supported?

Accepted Answer

LogLumin parses Apache and Nginx access logs in common or combined format, plain or gzipped. Cloudflare, Fastly and S3 formats are not supported yet. The parser extracts timestamps, URLs, user agents and response codes. If you are not on Apache or Nginx, the WordPress plugin collects the same data automatically without any log files.

How often should I upload logs?

If you install the WordPress plugin or a server-side snippet, visits are recorded as they happen and there is nothing to upload. This is available on every plan, including Free. If you upload log files instead, weekly is enough for most sites, and daily if you want to spot changes quickly.

Why aren't some pages being crawled?

Accepted Answer

Pages may not be crawled for several reasons: they might be blocked in your robots.txt, have noindex tags, lack internal links, or simply haven't been discovered yet by AI crawlers. Check your Coverage report for detailed insights.

How is my data protected?

Accepted Answer

We use privacy-first IP hashing - we never store raw IP addresses. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. You can configure data retention periods and export/delete your data at any time.

Can I export my analytics data?

Yes. Every analytics page has an export button that downloads the table as CSV, which opens directly in Excel or Google Sheets.

Free plans include basic analytics, 3 log file uploads per month, and 7-day data retention. Pro plans offer unlimited uploads, 90-day retention, anomaly detection, and priority support.
